Why Are You Eating That? 40 Days To Personal Revolution Week 3

The theme of the third week of 40 Days To Personal Revolution was equanimity. There are so many things in our life we can’t change and rather than fighting, it is better to accept that we aren’t in control. Last week provided a snow storm with 8 inches to shovel and the kids home from school for three days, which was a perfect situation to practice the “art of meeting life as it meets you” [...]

Discovering Vitality And The Key To Happiness: 40 Days To Personal Revolution Week Two

When you truly want to fit something into your life, you can.

A couple of years ago, Dave, the co-owner of Thrive Yoga, told me the participants in the 40 Days To Personal Revolution program not only find time to do their yoga but their energy level allows them to do much more in their life. At the time, I believed him but understood the process would be miraculous. It is. Setting your mind [...]

Which Exercise Has The Best Benefits?

The American Council On Exercise recently did a study on hula hooping, but the information which caught my eye concerned kickboxing. When compared to power yoga, aerobics, Nia, pilates, and even these very popular “boot camp” programs, kickboxing stands out as the best exercise for getting your heart rate up and burning calories.

Although I practice yoga for the stretching, muscle tone, and other more spiritual benefits, my desire to hit and kick the bags has [...]

Painstaking But Sleep Inducing: 40 Day Personal Revolution Week One

Fighting the strong winds.

Over the weekend I banged my forehead on the kitchen counter and finally lost it about reducing my coffee intake.

I don’t want to be healthy. I want to kill myself with food and drink. I want more COFFEE.

The outburst was due to my strenuous kickboxing workout rather than my yoga excursion. For some reason I crave coffee after intense physical activities. Since I’d had one mug before heading out the door [...]

Can You Do It With One Piece?

Recently my son told me “You can’t do it with one.” I was remembering a visit to the American History Museum more than six months earlier. He was talking about his attempt to attach magnetic objects on a ramp in order to direct a ball into a hole in the hands-on science exhibit.

I was delighted he remembered because at the time I stood there marveling at his minimalist approach.

For over an hour, every other kid [...]

Turning Our Diet On Its Head

When I decided to embark on the 40 Days To Personal Revolution of Baron Baptiste, I was not concerned about the diet component. Our family eats healthy. With my son’s food allergies, we prepare all 21 of our weekly meals at home. Because of fears of cross contaminations, I very rarely buy processed food.

We love cooking together. My husband and I have always pulled out cookbooks then started to experiment (since I don’t [...]

A New Year Lesson From Outer Space

Over the weekend my family visited the Air and Space Museum on the Mall. For some overpowering reason, I wanted to contemplate the universe as we embarked on another year. Acknowledging the vastness of space sometimes helps to put our lives in perspective. We are part of something so much larger than our everyday instances.

Spending time learning about the Milky Way fit with my intentions but then I found myself carefully studying every fact in [...]

Revolution Not Resolution

After almost 11 years of yoga practice, I’m timidly starting a Personal Revolution to kick off the New Year. Opening myself to new possibilities, I have no way of knowing what will happen.

As a gift for my birthday this month, my husband registered me for a program at Thrive Yoga based on Baron Baptiste’s 40 Days To Personal Revolution book.

For both my pregnancies my husband and I intensely prepared with the Bradley Method of Natural [...]
